Before the Long Sit
Starting is harder than sitting. People open the app, see twenty minutes on the timer, and close it. They’re not lazy. They’re just gone before they sit. Starting meditation is hard. Maybe I need a gentler on-ramp.
Maybe the work is getting your mind back before a full sit feels doable. A daily long sit is daunting when your attention is shredded by feeds, clips, and the itch to check one more thing. That is how most minds are conditioned now. Always on the lookout for one more thing. Call it brainrot or whatever. The label doesn’t matter.
Sometimes you need a smaller practice before a full sit is even plausible.
That is Present Return in the app: about a minute off the cushion. Ground. Breathe. Back to being here. Week one in Learn already pairs that with the daily sit. I am not walking away from the cushion. That is the whole point of meditation. That’s the core.
But I am working on a small curriculum expansion around shorter interventions in daily life. I have been testing reel-length talks on TikTok (meditation Q&A, one return, one breath). Next: fold the useful bits into Learn and the app as short daily interventions. Shorter on-ramps than a full Present Return, with different flavors, for when life eats the day and you are just not ready for a full sit.
Not a content library. No browsing for packs in the app. Just Sit. Timer stays free. The long sit stays the point.
Two legs, same practice: the daily sit on the cushion, and life between sits when you notice you are gone and need to return. I used to treat the second as optional. Wrong. You need both. Same thread as Off the Cushion Counts Too and One Minute Might Still Be Too Long.
Details still being shaped. Coming to the app and the web soon. You do not need to wait: Learn for week one, one minute on the timer, or one Present Return when you notice you are gone. Feet. Breath. Room. Once.
