Orient — Full
This is Orient. For about three minutes, you come back to your senses in the place you are. You count down from five to one. Acknowledge five things you see. Four you can touch. Three you hear. Two you can smell. One you can taste. Eyes stay open.
[Pause 3s]
Stay where you are — sitting, standing, wherever this moment finds you. Eyes open for this one. Soft gaze is fine. No need to stare.
[Pause 3s]
What this offers is a simple way to interrupt spin. Attention comes back to the ordinary world. Not a deep dive into the past. Just here.
[Pause 3s]
This is a grounding practice used in everyday stress and anxiety tools. It is sometimes called the five-four-three-two-one coping technique, or sensory counting. Our name for it is Orient. It is for settling in the present. It is not therapy, and it is not a deep emotional dig.
[Pause 3s]
This must be clear. This is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for care. If you are in heavy distress, please reach out to someone who can help.
[Pause 3s]
You can keep rough time with three Breath Loops if you like — about a minute each on the fingers. Optional. The guidance will hold an even pace.
[Pause 3s]
Here is what you do.
[Pause 3s]
First, notice your breathing. Slow, steady breaths. Then we count down from five to one. Five — acknowledge five things you see around you. A pen. A spot on the wall. Anything ordinary. Four — acknowledge four things you can touch. Hair. Fabric. The ground under your feet. Three — acknowledge three things you hear. Outside sounds, or even a rumble in the belly. Two — acknowledge two things you can smell. Or no strong smell — just the air. One — acknowledge one thing you can taste. The inside of the mouth is enough. Take your time. Even pace. No rushing.
[Pause 4s]
We start now. Eyes open — follow along with me.
[Pause 2s]
First, the breath. Slow. Steady. Long breaths if that helps.
[Pause 8s]
We count down from five to one. Starting with five. Acknowledge five things you see around you. Ordinary things. Name them quietly, or just notice them.
[Pause 28s]
Four. Acknowledge four things you can touch around you. Hair. A pillow. Fabric. The ground under your feet. Or whatever is clear.
[Pause 28s]
Three. Acknowledge three things you hear. Sounds nearby, or farther away. A rumble in the belly counts too.
[Pause 28s]
Two. Acknowledge two things you can smell. Or no strong smell — just the air. That counts.
[Pause 28s]
One. Acknowledge one thing you can taste. What does the inside of your mouth taste like right now? That is enough.
[Pause 20s]
Look around once more. You are here.
[Pause 5s]
Alright — that is Orient.
A couple of times with the guidance — then try this count on your own when you need to come back.
Thank you for grounding with me.
